Job Description:

The Director of Infection Control and Prevention develops and manages the activities of the Hospital-wide Infection Control Program to minimize the risk of infection to patients, employees, and visitors. - Develops and implements the Hospital's Infection Control program - Assures that all deptartments are familiar with infection control related standards and regulations of JCAHO and federal, state, and OSHA regulations. Assists with the preparation of any regulatory survey processes as required - Protects the confidentiality of all Infection Control and Quality Management activities - Maintains ongoing communication with department managers/directors to ensure that Infection Control practices are being followed in accordance with Hospital guidelines. Works collaboratively on problem resolution. - Monitors isolation techniques for infection prevention; disinfectant/sterilization practices; food handling processes; aseptic techniques used for patient care; policy development; housekeeping, laundry, and waste management practices. - Compiles data on surveillance and communicable diseases into reports that are presented at the Infection Control Committee meetings and that may be forwarded to other appropriate committees. - Conducts focus studies and surveillance activities for identification of nosocomial infections. Aggregates & analyzes data and utilizes information to develop policies & procedures aimed at reducing infection risks. Prepares reports for the Infection Control Committee; the Quality and Patient Safety Council and other committees as necessary. Assumes responsibility for the outpatient surgical wound infection surveillance system. - Assists in patient and employee follow-up after an exposure to a communicable disease and communications actions to Employee Health staff. - Plans & conducts the Infection Control education for New Employee Orientation. Plans & conducts unit-specific in-services on infection control topics. Develops annual Infection Control competencies for hospital staff. - Provides direction & support to Infection Control Committee in outbreak investigations and conducts follow-up monitoring to assure successful resolution and to establish acceptable baseline levels. Involves appropriate physicians, executive staff, managers, and other personnel in developing and implementing strategies for resolution. - Maintains close contact with the Montgomery County and other local health departments, the Maryland State Health Department, the Center for Disease Control, and other agencies as necessary. Reports communicable diseases as required by law under established guidelines. Maintains complete records of reportable diseases. Makes appropriate documentation in medical record as needed. Obtains information and assistance with disease management when necessary. -Other duties as assigned
