POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
RN with current Florida licensure Required
RN requirement may be waived for other Licensed Clinical Professionals with three consecutive years of Risk Management Director experience at an HCA-affiliated facility
Certification in Patient Safety (CPPS) Required
If not already CPPS, must complete the following:
CPPS Examination must be taken within 90 days of hire
CPPS Certification must be achieved within 12 months from date of hire.
CPHRM Required
If not already CPHRM, must complete the following:
CPHRM Examination must be taken within 90 days of hire
CPHRM Certification must be achieved within 12 months from date of hire.
Healthcare Risk Management License if required by State
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, or related field Required.
Master’s Degree Preferred
Experience:
3 years experience in a position dedicated to either Patient Safety, Risk, or Qualityclinical education experience responsible for the development, implementation and delivery of clinincal education programs Required
3 years bedside nursing experience in acute care setting Preferred
Previous management experience Preferred

Knowledge of and experience with patient safety analysis techniques (methods), including root cause analysis, cause and effect analysis, and failure mode and effect analysis
Proven team building skills in dealing with intraprofessional clinical and operations teams including medical staff in diverse settings
Experience with HCA clinical systems and standards Required.
Ability to establish and maintain collaborative and effective working relationships
Ability to communicate professionally and effectively in oral, written and electronic formats with both internal and external customers

Job Description:
The Patient Safety Director is responsible for facilitating the transition from a retrospective, reactive model for risk management to a prospective, proactive loss prevention, harm reducing patient safety program. Promotes a culture of safety. Directs others within the facility towards process improvements that support the elimination of medical/health care errors and other factors that contribute to unintended adverse patient outcomes. Initiates and oversees the development of a comprehensive patient safety improvement program inclusive of the analysis and trending of data. This position demonstrates a high degree of responsibility, accountability and autonomy.
