External Education Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or related field; Certification through AHIMA as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) Education Preferred: Master’s degree in Health Information Management Certification through AHIMA as Registered Health Information Administration (RHIA) ICD-10 Certification External Experience Experience Required: 5 years recent experience as a Director of Health Information in an acute care setting. Prior knowledge and background in Revenue Cycle Management to include coding skills and establishing internal auditing programs. Strong communication, organization, critical thinking, and analytical abilities. Demonstrated ability to develop effective collaborative relationships with the medical staff. Prior experience utilizing healthcare information technology, encoder applications, transcription platforms, and speech recognition technology. Experience Preferred: Experience in an organization utilizing Epic’s Electronic Health Record, Dragon voice recognition, and Chartscript transcription system. Project management. Business process redesign utilizing lean Six Sigma approach

Job Description:

The Director of Health Information Management is accountable for the coordination of health information management functions across all entities of Yuma Regional Medical Center. Participates in strategic planning for the development, implementation and maintenance of health information in compliance with federal and state laws, and regulatory agencies. Monitors health information management technologies and establishes standards for coding, data quality and ethical practice. Serves as an internal resource on health information management including coding, release of information, confidentiality, information storage and retrieval, record retention, authorship and authentication of health record documentation, standardization of medical vocabularies, and use of classification systems. Oversees the development of health information management policies. Monitors productivity and implements generally accepted health information management best practices across all functions. Supports and facilitates clinical, administrative, and external data use functions. Monitors and reports key revenue cycle metrics critical to meeting organizational goals Monitors local, national, and international trends in healthcare delivery to include monitoring changes in legislation and accreditation standards that affect health information management. Oversees the Coding, Release of Information, Transcription, Chart Operations, Data Integrity, and Suspension functions. Reports to: Controller/Administrative Director of Revenue Cycle. Maintains a collaborative relationship with the Chief Medical Officer Officer.
